Wonderful Miracles at the Lord’s Chosen Church

Some of the testimonies at the recent two-day programme of The Lords Chosen Charistmatic Revival Church located at Ijesha in Lagos can only be described as absurd but authorities there insist that what they call a “canal mind may never understand the workings of the spiritual.” A woman from Onitsha told a tale of how, after her marriage, she gave birth to a baby girl. According to her, she got pregnant again and desperately desired a baby boy but to her utter dismay, various scan examinations confirmed that she was carrying another baby girl. Determined to have a baby boy, she said she went to a Lord’s Chosen programme at Onitsha and prayed God to intervene.

Alas! The “Lord of Chosen” changed the sex of the baby in her womb as she eventually gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. This is just one out of the so many of the ludicrous testimonies and apparent phonily miracles at the programme tagged, “Hope for the Needy.” It may never be possible to say the actual number of people who attended the programme which drew participants from across several states in Nigeria as well as foreigners from the United States of America and Britain, Benin Republic and Togo, among others.

“There is no way anyone could have counted the number of people who attended the programme,” Pastor Okechukwu Njoku told Saturday Vanguard after the programme last Sunday. According to him, “the best you can do to estimate the figure is to describe it as a multitude. Everywhere was filled with people up to the express road. Even if you get the number of the people in the auditorium, based on the number of seats,   what of the children sitting on the floor, what of those sitting in their cars and those along the corridor of the canal?

“Miracles” extravaganza

But apart from the issue of spiritual uplifting, virtually everyone who attended the programme was there essentially for one purpose, a miracle of some sort, and from all indications, a number of them apparently got large doses of miracle, which the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, defines as “an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs.”

It is perhaps only this definition that may explain the case of a middle aged man who regained consciousness after some three months in coma, according to the family. As a member of the family explained, immediately after the Lord’s Chosen General Overseer, Pastor Lazarus Mouka, finished his prayer session, the man regained consciousness. There was also the case of a 32- year- old  Nju man who had been deaf and dumb from birth but started talking and the deafness equally vanished after the prayers.

In fact, the Overseer had told the congregation just before the prayer session that he was set to meet the expectations of the people even as he instructed those who were deaf and dumb, the lame, those on crutches and wheelchairs, those with hunchback, the insane, those with missing or damaged internal organs, to step out. According to him, he was equally set to restore life to anyone who might have died, “death that is not the will of God.”

So, the session began as Mouka proclaimed that, “if you walk on crutches, dispose of them because you have received your healing. Those afflicted with insanity, the madness is cancelled, in the name of Jesus. Any damaged organ should be recreated in Jesus name! If you have hunchback, I command it to disappear, in Jesus name! I cancel diabetes and those of you with damaged wombs; I command you, receive your cure now!”  He then instructed them to confirm any changes they felt.

A flood of testimonies started to reverberate across the auditorium.  One woman said that her madness disappeared. Several men and women lifted their crutches which had hitherto aided their movement. A man said that he was healed after 40 years with a broken limb. Another man testified that his three years old stroke affliction was gone for good while yet another man said that he started walking after being bedridden for nine years also because of stroke. A 17 year- old- girl who said that she had just received an admission letter from the University of Abuja, under miraculous circumstances, also testified that an earlier prayer session from the General Overseer cured her of bed-wetting, an affliction that had been with her from birth and which had hitherto failed to succumb to medical treatment.

A man who identified himself as coming from the Central African Republic said that he fell ill in his country and went to seek medical attention. After series of tests, doctors asked him what happened to one of his kidneys as it was missing. He said that he had never had any surgeries in his life. Subsequent visits to other hospitals also confirmed that he had only one kidney. According to him, he came to Nigeria and after prayers at the Lord’s Chosen Church; he went to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital where doctors conducted tests and told him that his two kidneys were intact and had no problems whatsoever.

A woman told the story of her several years of marriage without conception. She said hospital examinations later revealed that she had no Fallopian tubes. It took the intervention of a Lord’s Chosen Church programme to restore her Fallopian tubes and today, according to her, she has three children.

From far away United States of America, a man who described himself as a church-going person got a revelation that he should travel to West Africa where he will find a true church of God. The revelation did not specify which country in West Africa. The man said he travelled to several countries in the region and ended at Cotonou, Benin republic, where another revelation eventually directed him to go to the Lord’s Chosen Church in Nigeria. Stepping out of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport after landing in Nigeria, he got an unsolicited help from somebody driving a car who offered to take him free of charge to the headquarters of the Lord’s Chosen Church at Ijesha. The Moderator of the programme said the driver could not have been anyone else but an Angel, sent to take the man to the Lord’s Chosen Church.

God prefers salvation of the soul

Those who claimed to have received the miracles may have been luckier than some others. A number of other participants at the programme actually included the obvious poor and hungry as some of them sat on the bare ground, on the grounds of the church, with equally hungry-looking children, giving a typical scenario of a refugee camp where the inmates crave for handouts for survival. But, according to Njoku, what these people need may be salvation of their souls. According to him, “in the days of our Master Jesus, he made us to know that we will always have the poor among us forever.  But the Bible tells us that he was made poor so that we can be rich.

When we talk about hope for the needy, need is different from want. Our relationship with God is like that of a father or son relationship with the father. “Your child can tell you that he wants a car but you may not give it him because what he actually needs is education. So, it is with the gifts that God gives to us. Some people may be looking for physical things whereas what they actually need are the salvation of their souls, purification, Holy Ghost baptism, good health and even life because without life nothing goes on for any individual. For one to be alive from January to now, God has given him something that he needs most.

“The programme was more than successful, in the turn out, in the manifestation of the power of God and in the number of people giving their lives to Christ. It was successful in everything. It was better experienced than to be told what happened there. Only the living glorifies God, living in faith and righteousness and holiness. If anyone says those miracles are not real, let the person come forward with any matter, any day, any time we gather and let the person bring somebody so that we can prove that. We are not here to argue. We are here and people see in practical terms what we do.”
