Truck kills commercial motorcyclist, injures six.

Tragedy struck at Oke Elesin area of Amuloko, along Akanran road in the Ona Ara local government of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, at the weekend, as an articulated truck lost control, crushed three commercial motorcyclists, killing one person and injuring six others.

Sunday Mirror learnt that the NNPC-marked trailer with registration number LAGOS XL ‎724 KTU, which was ascending the rough and deplorable Oke Elesin road around 9 p.m., lost control while descending the sloppy road and trying to swerve and rescue the situation, the motorcyclists who were negotiating to pass it, were crushed in the process, with Ade Owobiyi Owoeye aka Igwe killed.

Eyewitnesses who besieged the scene to behold the corpse of ‘Igwe’, still trapped under the trailer, said the driver escaped before the police could arrive at the scene.

As at yesterday morning, the three ‎motorcycles were still under the trailer while efforts were being made by sympathisers to remove the corpse which was eventually removed at 10.15 a.m. and conveyed to the state mortuary‎ at Adeojo in Ibadan.

Divisional Traffic Police Officer, Akanran Division, Mr. Taiwo, who was at the scene, while speaking, said contrary to the claim of some persons that three persons died in the crash, only Igwe was killed, while others injured had been taken to different hospitals. He gave the confirmation after the corpse was removed through the effort of the police who hired a towing vehicle to lift the trailer.
