US Embassy in Nigeria Warns of Possible New Attacks
The US embassy in Abuja warned today in a statement of the possibility that terrorist groups could be launching attacks against hotels frequented by Westerners in Nigeria.
The text issued by the US embassy said that received information that shows the plans of terrorist attacks by these groups. No further details are available regarding the timing or methods of attack.
However, the US embassy advised US citizens to remain vigilant around government facilities and hotels in areas frequented by expatriates and foreign travelers, the statement added.
An American man was among the dozen people killed in an attack on November 20 at a luxury hotel in Bamako, capital of Mali, attributed to Islamists operating in the north of that country, while the fundamentalist group Boko Haram carries similar attacks in Nigeria.
The US State Department issued a global travel alert last November 23 in which Boko Haram was listed among groups that "continue to plan terrorist attacks in multiple regions".
