policemen attack by Villagers for arresting their Oba

Three policemen attached to Lagos State Police Command are lying critically ill in an undisclosed hospital after they were attacked by villagers in Badagry area of the state on Wednesday night.

It was gathered that the policemen attached to the XSQUAD Unit went to the village to arrest the traditional ruler (Baale) of the community over a petition against him, but instead of cooperating with the police and following them to the station, it was learnt that villagers loyal to the unnamed Baale, allegedly mobilised and attacked the operatives with matchetes and other dangerous weapons.

It was further gathered that the policemen were left in the pool of their own blood, while the villagers rescued the Baale, who is said to be on the run.

Another source, who requested anonymity, stated that a combined team of policemen and military personnel later stormed the village and rescued the injured policemen, adding that the Baale’s hired thugs were responsible for the attack on policemen.

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Joe Offor, said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatia Owoseni, and a team of policemen visited the scene of attack on Thursday.

He said: “We are at the same Badagry area with the CP.” Police sources said there was tension as the village has been deserted following fear of arrest and retaliation by the security agency.
