Confusion over Amaechi’s screening in senate

Confusion and anxiety is mounting in the Senate over the screening of a former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as Minister.

Amaechi’s name is one of the 21 names in the first batch of ministerial nominees submitted to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari for screening and confirmation as minister.

The first Order Paper released by the upper chamber had in it eight names of ministerial nominees slated for screening.

The listed names included Amaechi’s but another Order Paper issues minutes later, had only three nominees in it for screening with Amaechi’s name conspicuously missing.

The nominees whose names appeared in the first Order Paper as listed are Barrister Adebayo Shittu (Oyo); Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (Bayelsa); Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); khadija Abba Ibrahim (Yobe); Hon. Bawa Bwari (Niger); Ocholi Enojo James (Kogi); Mansur Muhammed (Zamfara) and Zainab Ahmed (Kaduna).

Curiously in the second Order Paper which excluded Amaechi’s name had Barrister Adebayo Shittu, Claudius Omoleye Daramola (Ondo) and Khadija Abba Ibrahim.

It is not yet clear whether Amaechi will still be screened.

The submission of the report of the consideration of the petition against Amaechi which was listed in the first Order Paper was also deleted in the second Order Paper.

Chairman of Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu was listed to submit for consideration the report of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions on a petition by Integrity Group alleging cases of fraud against Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Unconfirmed report said that the Senators are yet to agree on what to do with Amaechi’s nomination.
