Obafemi Martins is set to return to action when his side face Vancouver Whitecaps in Wednesday’s CONCACAF Champions League clash.
Martins, who has been out injured for the past eight weeks, is looking sharper in training and could play a part in the encounter, according to Sounders coach Sigi Schmid.“Oba is getting closer to his return to the squad,” Schmid told Sounders TV.“He went through training today and is getting closer to his return. This week we are hoping he can make it back but we have to go day by day.”
Martins was not risked when Sounders crashed 3-0 at the CenturyLink Field on Saturday to the same Whitecaps but Schmid thinks his Nigerian striker can be the joker in the encounter as they hope to exact revenge on their Canadian rivals who lead the MLS’ Western Conference.
A brace from Norwegian defender Pa-Modou Kah and one goal from Chilean midfielder Pedro Morales condemned Seattle Sounders to their 11th defeat of the season on Saturday.
